Well, it is once again that time of the year. The time when the world says we should go out and spend lots of money on material things to show other people that we care about them. And if we fail to do so, then it becomes our fault that the economy is in "crisis" because the "consumers are not confident". What does that mean anyway?? When I want to buy something, be it for me or anybody else, I'm pretty confident about it!!
The other thing that always rears its ugly head during this time of the year is what do we call this holiday? Since I can remember, my parents always referred to it as Christmas. I've always called it Christmas. When I was a kid, all of the decorations you could buy said "Merry Christmas." However, in our politically correct world that we seem to live in nowadays, people have begun to say "Happy Holidays." I'm sorry, but I don't celebrate "the Holidays," I celebrate Christmas. The way I see it, I grew up in a country that was founded on Christian beliefs. There is no denying that fact. The original people who migrated to this country and formed what we know as our government today had strong Christian beliefs which they used to base our government on. The vast majority of Americans claim to be Christian (I think it is 80 something percent, but I don't recall the exact number). If this is the case, if these 80 something percent of our population were any kind of Christian at all, I would be greatly offended by all of the hoopla that is being created to try to take Christ out of Christmas. What this tells me, is that the majority of those 80 something percent are Christians in name only, and probably don't have the foggiest idea of what it means to be a true Christian. They call themselves Christians because they are pretty sure there is some higher power out there. They are sure they are not one of those other religions they keep hearing about that kill people and do "strange" things, and their parents were Christians, so they must be Christians. Well folks, here's the problem. Just because your parents were Christians does not mean that you will inherit it. Christianity is not genetic. It is not contagious, you will not "catch it" if your spouse or children, or parents have it. Christianity is a personal, one on one relationship with Jesus Christ (you know, of Christmas fame?). It is the understanding that you are a sinner, that all sinners must die, and that Jesus, who was perfect in everyway and the ONLY man to NEVER sin, took your place at judgement so you could be forgiven of those sins. Only when you understand that, are you a true Christian. This is where we are falling short. The vast majority do NOT have that personal relationship with Christ, so it doesn't bother them when people begin to compromise and phase out Christian holidays. So we, as the true believers, have to stand our ground. We have to proclaim "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!" everywhere we go.
I heard this song on the radio the other day, so I felt lead to post it on here for your enjoyment. God Bless all of you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
